Mark 1:21-28

January 29, 2012

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus' first miracle is an exorcism. This is a rather far-out thing for modern day Christians to get their educated heads around, and leaves us with questions about evil and the powers that threaten us that are difficult to clearly answer. From Jesus' choice to address the man with the unclean spirit and how he chose to address him, however, we can learn a great deal about facing the things among us that are strange or unnerving, and about the crucial component of dealing with one another in community with love and the goal of restoration.
